August is Upon Us

Hey y'all, Hope you are having a wonderful summer and that the rain is reaching you somehow.  Pretty dry here in the Big Chap.  Here are 2 events that are coming up in the next couple of weeks that you might want to check out:

I am the featured potter at Lark and Key Boutique in Charlotte, NC  for the month of August 2009.  I will be showing with a printmaker, Dan Allegrucci, who does incredibly cool woodcut prints.  The show opens July 29, and the Opening Reception is the following Friday, August 7, 6-9pm.  You can go to larkandkey.com or call (704) 379-1826 for more information on the show and on how to get to the gallery. I have 30+ new pieces in the show:  some bug mugs, bug bottles, cups, bowls, bud vases and a salsa basket.  Hope to see you at the opening!  For those of you on facebook you can check out this page www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=136185680434&ref=mf

On Friday, August 21, 6-9pm, Claymakers in Durham, NC will host an opening reception for "Drawn to Clay:  Vessels Emblazoned".  This exhibition gathers together 20 of NC's best ceramic artists and potters who employ imagery to embellish their ceramic vessels.  Included artists:  Jennifer Stas, Naomi Dalglish, Michael Hunt, Blaine Avery, Bruce Gholson, Samantha Heneke, Ronan Peterson, Jennifer Mecca, Ron Philbeck, Amy Sanders, Matt Kelleher, Shoko Teruyama, Susan Feagin, Corinne Fox, Kelly O'Briant, Carol Gentithes, Fred Johnston, Laura Korch, Michael Kline, and Gillian Parke.   Each potter and ceramic artist in this show is known for their unique approach for enlivening the surfaces of their ceramic vessels with imagery.  From the quick energetic finger wipes evoking grasses blowing in the wind of Michael Hunt and Naomi Dalglish to the carefully considered and constructed kitsch decal images of Gillian Parke, this show promises to be a feast for the eyes and an event not to be missed.  Techniques and content vary from artist to artist, but quality, creativity, and invigoration tie these 20 ceramicists together in this special exhibition at Claymakers in downtown Durham.  You can go to claymakers.com  or call (919) 530-8355 for more information regarding the show and the studio.  For those of you on facebook you can check out the following link:
